fiddle tunes of tennessee with chloe edmonstone

Over this five class series we will take apart and study the diverse styles of fiddle tunes in the Tennessee region through the repertoires of Arthur Smith, Clyde Davenport (KY/TN), and Bill Birchfield. We’ll be picking one or two tunes from each fiddler that really showcases their style, and discussing all of the elements that give it its singular sound, including bowing, melody, and rhythm.

Once we’ve gotten through the tunes we will also discuss leading and following in a jam setting, as well as how to have confidence doing so in any company.

This class is intended for fiddlers who already have a good sense of how to follow a simple melody and have a basic knowledge of old-time music in general.
